My Weight Loss Journey
In the summer of 2017, during a trip to Legoland with my best friends and their children, I felt exhausted and uncomfortable in my body. When I was told I was too large to fit on a roller coaster at the theme park, I felt immense shame and something clicked inside of me- this was the final straw and I had to change my life. I embarked on a comprehensive health and wellness weight loss journey. I changed my eating habits and started attending therapy, where my therapist reminded me of the gravity of my situation- she told me what I was doing was saving my own life. Her gentle but firm guidance- holding up a mirror and telling me the truth- gave me the confidence and motivation I needed.
Over the next 5 years, I continued to evolve mentally, emotionally and physically. I changed my relationship with food and learned new coping skills to deal with life’s challenges. In therapy, I addressed problematic patterns learned through chaos and trauma in childhood. I purchased a Fitbit and incorporated exercise into my life, walking 10,000 steps or more on a daily basis. Eventually, my efforts culminated in losing 150 pounds. My body can do anything I ask of it, which is an amazing feeling. I move forward with confidence into who I am today and where my journey has led me, personally and professionally.
Now that I have experienced my own health and wellness journey, I have a passion to help others experience the hope and healing I have found. That is my “why.” As a therapist and life coach, I have walked in my clients’ shoes and know the commitment it takes mentally, emotionally and physically to pursue overall wellness. I hope anyone reading this can feel encouraged in some way about what is possible based on my journey, and the realization that this journey has twists and turns and changes shape, but never truly ends.
